Two views, the poetry room, City Lights bookshop.
As well as having a great selection of poetry titles and a welcoming space to peruse them in (comfortable chairs, natural light, room to manoeuvre), City Lights holds regular events and readings. One of these was recorded in May last year in association with the release of Rexroth’s In the Sierra, and is available as a podcast here. It runs for just under ninety minutes and offers context and readings from Rexroth’s work, and discussion which touches on his biography, on climbing, and (briefly) on ‘Left Coast’ culture and history. The City Lights website has podcasts from other events, readings and interviews – a variety of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, recent and from the archives; next stop for me, a session with Rebecca Solnit from 2010.
